Top Tips For Travelling With Cigars

So, obviously, it looks like no one is going to be travelling for a while.  However, the sun will always rise, and sooner or later, we are going to be through these turbulent times.  When that happens, people are going to want to get out of there house, as far away as possible, at least for a while.

When the time does come when regular travel can resume, you are going to want to make sure to bring some of your cigars with you.  Whether you’re sitting on a beach in the Caribbean or travelling through Europe, a fine cigar will always be the perfect accessory to a relaxing vacation day.  Here are a few tips on how to properly travel with your cigars.

Travel Humidor

The first thing you are going to need is a humidor.  Not just any humidor, but an actual travel humidor.  These are special cases specifically designed to travel all over the world.  They usually come in a hard airtight case and some can fit up to 30 or 40 cigars.  You want to make sure your cigars are safe whether you’re on a cruise ship or traveling by plane.

My go-to travel humidor has always been the Xikar Black Travel Humidor.  This durable, 40 count humidor is airtight.  On top of that, it has a special valve to release air pressure after you’ve flown with it.  It is reliable, solid, and will keep your cigars fresh anywhere in the world.

Bring Matches

This might seem like a personal preference because I am on record saying that I prefer to use wood matches over any other lighting implement.  However, when you are travelling using matches, they can really come in handy.  First of all, the matches are going to give you the best smoking experience anyway; even better than most lighters.  Second, and more important for this topic, is that they are easy to travel with.

The TSA is notoriously strict when it comes to lighters of any kind, especially butane lighters.  Instead of running the risk of having your prized lighter either lost or confiscated, you are better of just taking a bunch of wood matches with you in your suitcase or picking up some wood matches whenever you arrive at your destination.

Check Your Cigars

So I always prefer to check my main bag.  I hate the hassle of trying to find a spot above my seat and then having to wait for everyone else.  I like to just grab my backpack and go.  When it comes to bringing cigars on your journey, I would always check your bag.  If they are in a hard case humidor, they should be totally safe in a nicely packed suitcase.

This is also smart when you are bringing cutters with you.  Most likely, you will not be allowed to bring a cigar cutter on the plane, but storing them in a checked bag will always work out.  The last thing you want is to have your precious cutter taken from you at security, so make sure everything is packed away in your checked bag and you should be good to go.
