District of Columbia
First up in the District of Colombia, we have the Villiger Export Natural, which is hugely popular throughout the world. Kansas
In Kansas, the most popular cigar is the machine-made Dutch Masters President. This is followed by the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6, the La Finca Ammo Box, the El Rey del Mundo Robusto Suprema, and the Punch Rothschild.
Kentucky

Massachusetts

Maryland
The most popular cigar in Maryland is the classic Montecristo White Series Toro, which is a famous all-around America. This is followed by the Backwoods Cigar Sweet Aromatic, the JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2, the La Finca Ammo Box, and the Macanudo Ascot.
Maine
In the Pine Tree State, we found that the most popular cigar is by far the mouth-watering JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo. In second place, we find the much loved La Finca Ammo Box, which is closely followed by the delicious Backwoods Cigars Sweet Aromatic, Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Bully, and the La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 6.
Michigan
Over in Michigan, our data led us to the Montecristo White Series Toro, which is what the good people of Michigan seem to have chosen for their state cigar. This, however, was closely followed by two JR Alternatives: the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo and the JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2. In fourth place, we find the La Finca Ammo Box once more, and in fifth, the much-loved Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers.
Minnesota
In the land of 10,000 Lakes, we find the much loved and revered Montecristo White Series Two in first place. A classic blend, the Montecristo is closely followed by another Toro, the La Finca Ammo Box. In third place, we find the gorgeous machine-made Dutch Masters President, which is closely followed by the Backwoods Cigars Sweet Aromatic and the Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers.
Missouri
It seems that the favorite smoke of the Missourian people is nothing other than the Montecristo White Series Two, which places the much-loved La Finca Ammo Box into second place. In third place, we find the Macanudo Ascot, which is a rarer inclusion in our findings. Speaking of rare additions, it seems like the good people of Missouri also favour the JR Alternative Partagas 1845 Gigante, which appears nowhere else in this study. In fifth place, we also find the popular Punch Bolos cigar.
Mississippi
In Mississippi, we found that the most popular cigar is one that only appears twice in any of our findings — the splendid JR Alternative Excalibur I. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this mouth-watering cigar is closely followed by both the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo and the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Hoyo Epicure. In fourth place, we find a cigar not featured anywhere else in this study, the wonderful Don Mateo No. 10. In fifth is the JR Alternative Ashton Magnum, a premium, yet economically priced cigar.
Montana
In the Treasured State it is perhaps of little surprise to find a gem of a smoke as the most popular cigar, the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Sublime. In second place we find the JR Ultimate Habanos, and in third, cigarillos found nowhere else in this study, CAO Flavours Moontrance Cigarillos. The fourth most popular cigar was found to be the La Finca Ammo Box, and in fifth, the H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon Petit Corona.
North Carolina
The favorite smoke of North Carolinians is nothing other than the ever-popular Montecristo White Series Toro, which finds itself in competition only with the Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully (bought as a ten-pack). Perhaps unsurprisingly, we find the La Finca Ammo Box in third place, closely followed by the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6, and the Macanudo Ascot.
North Dakota
It seems that the good people of North Dakota love nothing more than puffing on some Davidoff Mini Cigarillos Platinum, which fall as the state’s most popular cigars. In second, we have the loved Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers while the Garcia y Vega Pops Crystals follow in third. In fourth place, we have the near peerless Arturo Fuente Cuban Corona, which finds itself just ahead of the Consuegra President
Nebraska
Although Nebraska does not have an official state food, it now has, arguably, an official state cigar, the mellow and sweet Macanudo Ascot. This is closely followed by the Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers and the beloved Punch Rothschild – a cigar found only three times in this study. In fourth and fifth place respectively, we find the revered Macanudo Miniatures and the Arturo Fuente Cubanitos.
New Hampshire
In the beautiful state of New Hampshire, we find that the La Finca Ammo Box takes center stage as the most popular cigar in the state. In second place we find the legendary Excalibur No. I, which perhaps surprisingly, only appears in two other states (Massachusetts and West Virginia).
New Jersey
Home to JR Cigars, it comes as little surprise to find that the very popular Montecristo White Series Toro finds itself in first place. This is closely followed by our very own JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2 and the much-loved La Finca Ammo Box. In fourth and fifth place we find the world-famous Macanudo Miniatures and the Macanudo Prince of Wales.
New Mexico
Over in the Land of Enchantment, we find that our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Hoyo Piramide finds itself as the most popular cigar. In second place, we also find the highly respected Dutch Master President, which is also the best-selling machine-made cigar in America since 1912. In third and fourth place we find the wonderful and irresistible Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers and Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully. In fifth place, we also find Don Diego Babies, which appears in the top five in no other state.
Nevada
Regarded as many as one of the most beautiful states in the country, we find our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Sublime taking home the crown of Nevada. With the La Finca Ammo Box in second place, we also say hello to the Baccarat Churchill, which is a placement unique to the Sagebush State. In fourth and fifth place we also find the revered Macanudo Ascot and gorgeous Baccarat Rothschild.
New York
It seems that the favorite smoke of the average New Yorker is the subliminal Montecristo White Series Toro, which is a popular cigar across many states. In second and third place we also find the revered Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully and the La Finca Ammo Box. In fourth place, we find our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6, which is followed closely by the Macanudo Ascot in fifth place.
Ohio
Like so many other states, the favourite smoke of the Buckeye State just so happens to be the famed Montecristo White Series Toro. In second and third place we find the La Finca Ammo Box and the Baccarat Rothschild, which is closely followed by the much-loved JR Cuban Alternative Montecristo No. 2. Back in fifth place, we find a favourite cigar which is unique to Ohio, the Macanudo Gold Label Shakespeare.
Oklahoma
In Oklahoma, we find a much-featured cigar, although one that is rarely found in first place – the La Finca Ammo Box. Down in second place, we have the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo, which is followed by the Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers and Romeo y Julieta Reserve Robusto in fourth and fifth, respectively. Last, but certainly not least, Oklahoma’s fifth most popular cigar is the Don Mateo No. 11, which is found nowhere else in this research.
Oregon
In the Beaver State, the most popular cigar by far just so happens to be our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo, which uses only long-filler tobaccos. Closely followed by the La Finca Ammo Box, in third place we have another JR offering, the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 5. In fourth and fifth place we also find two much-loved smokes, the Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers and the Macanudo Ascot.
Pennsylvania
Home to just over 12 million people, and a hell of a lot of cigars smokers, our research found that the state’s most popular cigar is the Montecristo White Series Toro, which is closely followed by the La Finca Ammo Box. In third place sits our very own JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2, which is closely followed by the Macanudo Ascot and the famed Montecristo Churchill.
Rhode Island
Over in the country’s smallest, but most charming state, we find that the Backwoods Cigars Sweet Aromatic is the cigar of the people. In second place, we have the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo, closely followed by the Hav-A-Tampa Jewels Sweet, which is found nowhere else in this research. In fact, our fourth and fifth place cigars are found only to be the most popular in Rhode Island too, and these are the Nub 460 Connecticut and Riata No. 600.
South Carolina
With a state motto of “Animis opibusque parati”, which translates to “Prepared in mind and resources”, it could be of surprise to few that the state’s most popular cigar is the La Finca Ammo Box. Following this, from second to fourth place, we find an entrée of JR brand cigars, which are the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Sublime, JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo, and JR Edicion Limitada Alternative. In fifth place, we find the Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6.
South Dakota
In the Mount Rushmore State, we’ve found the most popular cigar to be none other than the La Finca Ammo Box, which is closely followed by the ever-loved JR Cuban Alternative Montecristo No. 2. In third and fourth place, we have the Partagas Black Label Gigante and Romeo y Julieta 1875 Julietas. In fifth place, we have an addition unique to South Dakota, which is the flavorful Excalibur Miniatures.
Tennessee
Tennessee’s preferred smoke is the JR Cuban Alternative Montecristo No. 2, which is closely followed by the magnificent La Finca Ammo Box. In third and fourth place we have our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6 and JR Cuban Alternative Cohiba Robusto. In fifth place, we say hello to the blessed Macanudo Tudor, which fails to make the top five in any other state.
Texas
At the Lone Star State, we found that the Montecristo White Series Toro is by far the most popular cigar, with the Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully and the La Finca Ammo Box coming in at a close second and third. Not far beyond them, the JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2 and the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6 come in at fourth and fifth place.
Utah
In Utah, the state known for its beautiful landscapes and national parks, we find its most popular cigar to be the mild yet revered La Fontana Galileo. Interestingly, this cigar features nowhere else in our research, making it a standout selection from the good people of Utah. In second place we find the La Finca Ammo Box, which is itself closely followed by our very own JR Alternative H. Upmann Colombo. In fourth place, we find another cigar that appears nowhere else, the Punch Rare Corojo Rothschild, which is closely followed by the mighty Palma Real Paradisus Churchill.
Virginia
Over in Virginia, we see our old favourites, the Montecristo White Series Toro taking pride of place as the state’s most popular smoke. In second place we find the much-loved Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully, which is followed by our very own JR Alternative Montecristo DR No. 2. In fourth place, we find the La Finca Ammo Box. In fifth place is the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6, which also appears as one of the most popular cigars in 12 other states.
Vermont
Over in the Green Mountain State, we found the most popular smoke to be none other than the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo, which is followed closely by JR Alternative Hoyo Rothschild. In third and fourth place we find the brilliant Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte Cordoba and Hav-A-Tampa Jewels Regular, both of which are unique to Vermont. Another cigar that appears as the most popular in no other state is the cherished Genuine Pre-Embargo Counterfeit Cubans 1958 Belicoso Figurado, which finds itself in fifth place.
Washington
In the Evergreen State, we find the most popular smoke to be the much-loved Montecristo White Series Toro, which is followed by the ever-popular and iconic La Finca Ammo Box. In third place, we are proud to find our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo Edmundo. In fourth and fifth, we see the magnificent Macanudo Ascot and the Arturo Fuente Petit Corona, the latter of which appears nowhere else in our research.
Wisconsin
In Wisconsin, we found that the favourite smoke of the average Wisconsinite is the Dutch Masters President, the most popular and best-selling machine-made cigar in America. In second and third place we find the wonderful Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers and Antonio y Cleopatra Minis. In fourth and fifth place, it is perhaps no surprise to find the ever-popular La Finca Ammo Box and Backwoods Cigars Sweet Aromatic.
West Virginia
Over where life is old and where the Blue Ridge Mountains lie, we found the most popular cigar to be the La Finca Ammo Box. In second place, we are proud to find our very own JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Cohiba Behike Laguito No. 6 as the second most popular smoke. In third place, we have the Don Tomas Clasico Robusto, which features as the most popular cigar in no other state. In fourth and fifth place we find the ever wonderful Macanudo Ascot and the Excalibur No. II.
Wyoming
Across in the beautiful state of Wyoming, we discovered that the most popular smoke was the Macanudo Hyde Park, which also features as a popular cigar in Georgia. In second and third place we found the most popular smokes to be the Avo XO Legato and the Mr. B Original, neither of which appeared anywhere else in our research. In fourth and fifth place we have the same cigar, the machine-made Dutch Masters. The only difference here is that the 50-pack is slightly more popular than the 5-pack.
