Aging Room Buying Guide

June 11, 2020

What started out as a small, boutique cigar company several years ago has become one of the highest-rated and most sought after brands on the market.  Rafael Nodal is the visionary behind the Aging Room brand, and for over a decade his cigars have received top-notch ratings from several publications and critical acclaim from customers.

As we continue in our Buying Guide Series, today, we are going to take a look at some of our favorite cigars from Aging Room. It is hard for a new cigar smoker or just someone who is new to a brand to navigate which cigars are best for them.  With our buying guide, we will be able to help you find the Aging Room cigar that is right for you.

Aging Room Quattro Original

While Rafael had other cigars come before this, in my mind the Quattro Original is where the brand truly started to take flight.  The Quattro has become a brand within a brand, spawning three additional blends, another of which is on this list.  However, right here we are talking about the delicious and rich Quattro Original

This Dominican, box-pressed smoke uses Dominican filler and binder tobaccos for a rich and flavorful core.  It is then cloaked in a Sumatra wrapper that adds in wonderful notes of coffee, leather, and earth.  This cigar is well balanced, well constructed, and above all has tremendous flavor.

Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua

This is the cigar that changed the game for Aging Room.  Working hand in hand with AJ Fernandez, Rafael blended a spectacular, Nicaraguan cigar that was widely loved by all.  In fact, in 2019 this was named the No. 1 cigar of the year by Cigar Aficionado, a tremendous once in a lifetime achievement.

The Quattro Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan puro, meaning it is rolled with only 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos.  All of the tobaccos are grown on farms owned by AJ.  Working together, AJ and Rafael created a stunning smoke with great notes of spice, cocoa, nuts, and a touch of sweetness.  This is a true connoisseur’s choice.

Aging Room Bin No. 2

This is one of the newer releases from Aging Room, and in my opinion, the cigar that packs the most flavor and punch.  Released in 2019, the Bin No 2 was widely anticipated and received much praise from critics and cigar aficionados throughout the industry.

The Bin No.2 is also a Nicaraguan puro, however, it is quite different than any other cigar on this list.  It uses tobacco from the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua.  This volcanic island has unique soil, that lends tremendous notes of leather, smoke, nuts, and even dried fruits to the profile.  This bold smoke is not for the faint of heart, but is a must-have for anyone who likes a rich and unique smoking experience.

Aging Room Solera

The Aging Room Solera line uses a unique process in the fermenting of the tobacco that originated in wine and other libations.  IT calls for aging tobaccos from different years together, giving each cigar in the solera line a complex and unique flavor profile.

The Solera line is available in three wrapper varieties.  There is the dark and rich maduro, the smooth and creamy Connecticut, and the zesty and bold Sun Grown.  The Solera is the perfect line for someone new to the brand, as it has an option for every palate and flavor preference.

Aging Room Pura Cepa

I think this is my favorite Aging Room of all time.  For some reason, this cigar just hits me every single time.  It is complex, flavorful, and above all, consistent.  If you polled the JR team about which Aging Room they preferred, most would say Pura Cepa.

In another collaborative effort, Rafael worked together with the legendary Plasencia family to create this amazing cigar.  It is rolled using the finest, Nicaraguan tobaccos are grown only by the Plasencias themselves.  The finishing touch is an exquisite, Nicaraguan maduro wrapper.  With notes of espresso, leather, and nuts, this cigar checks off every box for me, and I’m sure it will for you as well.
