Weekly Cigar Roundup: Close to Nick's Vest

Ant:

Good morning, Nick.

Nick: Or is it?

Ant: It is.

Nick:
Okay. How was your weekend?

Ant:
It was pretty good, man. How was yours?

Nick:
Oh, it was all right.

Ant:
Good. Let’s talk about cigars.

Nick:
First of all, you’re not even going to say anything?

Ant:
It’s beautiful. This table is beautiful. Can you see the table on the camera? It’s a beautiful table.

Nick:

It’s called a Merschbergen. All right, so what a weekend, and what a week it was, and what a week it’s going to be.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:
So why don’t we start off with-

Ant:
The Monday.

Nick:

The Monday Smoke. I went back to an old favorite. A lot of memories for me and you with this cigar, Ant. It is the-

KFC. Our first trip.

Nick:
Yeah. Just interrupt what I’m saying.

Ant:
Go ahead.

Nick:
No, it’s too late now. You already ruined the moment that there already wasn’t.

Ant: Sorry.

Nick:

The KFC, using that Kentucky Fire Cured tobacco, very unique aroma and smell. You smell it from a mile away.

Ant:
Yeah. More than a mile.

Nick:
I think my bag from that trip still stinks.

Ant:
Oh, it still smells. The original camera bag? It smells so good.

Nick:
So good. So good.

Ant:
Yeah. Threw away my shoes.

Nick:
Yeah, but you have so many shoes.

Ant:
I know, but-

Nick:
What are you wearing now?

It’s a waste. Jordan’s.

Nick: Really?

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:
You have Jordan’s?

Ant: Yeah.

Nick: It’s nice.

Ant:
It is nice.

Ant:
Tuesday, Nick.

Nick:
Tuesday, Anthony.

Ant: Here it is.

Nick:
I really needed a beer.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:
And what goes better with a beer than a cigar made for beers? This is the Perdomo Special Craft Series.

Ant: Correct.

Nick:

Ant: Amber.

Nick:
That’s that nice middle color. Also known as Colorado in terms of cigar shape.

Ant:
Colorado, yeah.

Nick: Colorado.

Ant:
We had a big discussion about that this weekend.

Nick:
God, it was a disaster.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:

But it has very nice spicy wood notes. I believe, don’t quote me on it, it’s a Sun Grown Wrapper, so that little bit of zest in there. Goes really well with those middle range IPAs, something with a little more body to it. Not something super dark, but not something super light.

Ant:
Right in the middle.

Nick:
Middle. Amber.

Ant:
Right in the middle.

Nick:
There’s even an M in Amber for middle.

Ant: Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Ant:
This is a goodie.

Nick:
But an oldie.

Ant:
But a great.

Nick:
And a time to have it. This is the Don Pepin Blue Original.

Ant: Blue.

Nick:
There’s so many names for it. There’s the Original, there’s the Classic-

Ant:
There’s the Blue.

Nick:

It’s just the straight up first, out the box Don Pepin cigar. Before My Father but after Tatuaje, this was the first cigar to really have his name and showcase his talents to a worldwide audience, and it made a huge impression. Very zesty. Those pure Nicaraguan flavors coming through. It really showcased what he was able to do in his newfound home in Nicaragua and in Miami, and to this day remains one of my favorite cigars.

Ant:
It’s so fancy.

Nick: It is.

Ant:
It’s so fancy.

Nick:
Nice little florals.

Nick:
And the things. It’s got the flags.

Ant:
The American flag.

Nick:
The American flag, Cuban flag.

Ant:
Cuban flag.

Nick:
That’s where he’s from.

Ant:
Shields. There’s so many shields on here.

Nick:
I know. Shield yourself against bad cigars by smoking a good one.

Ant:
If you can get it, yeah.

Nick: What?

Nick:
Speaking of classics, man.

Ant:
Speaking of it, Nick.

Nick:
Thursday, sometimes you need that little boost. Little boost.

Ant: Okay.

Ant:
This is the one.

Nick: This is it.

Ant:
Well, it’s the five. Roman numeral of five, but it’s really the V. Really the series V.

Nick:
Also, upside down it’s the Greek letter for lambda?

Ant: Chops?

Nick:
Yeah. Lamb chops.

Ant:
Lamb chops.

Nick:
Where they sell lamb in the shops. Lamb shops.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:

This is the Oliva Serie V. One of the most decorated cigars ever created. Been on countless top 10 lists, including nine times on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list.

Ant:
Out of how many?

Nick: 18?

Ant:
That’s, like, half.

Nick:

Ant:
That’s over half.

Nick: Yeah.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:

But one of the best strong cigars out there. It’s in the Mount Rushmore of full bodied smokes. Oily, dark wraparound there. Nicaraguan tobacco, it’s zesty and spicy but incredibly smooth, and visually it’s flawless.

Ant:
You want to touch it?

Nick:
Oh. That’s good.

Ant:
You’ve had that.

Nick:
I’ve had it several times.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick:
Look at the oils. You see the oils?

Ant:
How’s it feel? I see it, Nick. It’s beautiful.

Nick:
The wrapper, the construction. It has good weight to it.

Ant:
The wrapper matches the band, matches the wrapper. Beautiful.

This is built Ford tough.

Nick: Oh, Ant.

Ant:
Oh, Nick. This was a Friday.

Nick:
This was. And I needed something prehistoric to get me ready for the weekend.

Ant:
Nothing better than Neanderthal.

Nick:

Not at all. Especially you have that unique shape and size. I love that flat club head on there. Full of amazing flavor. Michael Rosales and Skip Martin and Esteban Disla, their main blender down there at the Nica Suena factory, really put together an overall outstanding smoke with this.

Ant:
They know what they’re doing.

Nick:
They really do.

Ant:
They know what they’re doing.

Nick:

To be able to have really great tobaccos in a unique shape and size, but the construction is still on point. It doesn’t burn funny, it doesn’t draw bad. To be able to roll in a size like that, and this is a regularly released product, it’s not some super limited edition. They have released thousands of these, and each one? On point.

Ant:
Yeah. But flat.

Nick:
Flat point.

Ant: Yeah.

Nick, it’s Saturday.

Nick:
Saturday. I’m going to watch the UFC fight.

Ant:
I want to hear you say this.

Nick:
I smoked this amazing, luxurious cigar from Crown Heads, and there it is. The Las Calaveras.

Ant:
Oh yes. Thank you.

Nick:
This newest version of this seasonal release from Crown Heads, it’s a Crown Heads/My Father team up.

Ant: Collab.

Nick:

Collab. One of the best yet. I think on par with the original release back in 2014. Just fantastic blend. The construction is outstanding. Burn, draw, flavor profile, no bad or dirty notes, nothing getting left on the tongue, just a smooth, clean, but also rich and medium to full smoke. There’s a lot of flavor there.

Ant:
It’s Crown Heads.

Nick:
But smooth. There’s a creaminess to it, but also that little bit of pep, that zest.

Ant:
I love it. I love it.

Nick:
Awesome. Awesome.

Ant:

That’s Crown Heads. Miguel, I think you called me. If you did, I’m sorry, I’ll reach out. I missed your call again.

And then yesterday, it was a long weekend, so on Sunday, I needed something just to relax with.

Ant: This is it.

Nick: Yeah.

Ant:
Want me to take it out?

Nick:
Yeah. This is also the name of the cigar I want to get as a tattoo right across my forehead.

Ant:
That would be classic.

Nick:
This is the Muestra De Saka Now Leave Me the Hell Alone.

Ant:
Or, hashtag-

Nick: N-L-M-T-H-A.

Ant: That’s it.

Nick: Yeah.

Ant: Okay.

Nick:

Steve Saka, I don’t know if he’s not a big fan of it, but he’s not big into making a lot of Lanceros, just as his own personal preference, but people were begging him, “You need to release a Lancero. You need to release a Lancero.” So he finally did it in the Muestra De Saka line, and he literally called it the Now Leave Me the Hell Alone. Here. I made you your thing. Go away.

Ant:
Don’t bother me anymore.

They sold out instantaneously.

Ant: Instantly.

Nick:

Within a day, they were all gone from every store ever. So he created another little batch, just as good as the original.

Ant:
Its own little coffin box.

Nick:

Seven by 38. It’s got a sweetness but a savoriness to it as well. He keeps the blend of the moisture very close to the chest, close to the vest, which, I have one on.

Ant:
You have everything close to the vest.

Nick:
Everything is on my vest.

Ant:
Week at a glance.

Nick:

Week [inaudible 00:07:01]. Thank you very much for watching. A lot of cool things coming. Keep watching our YouTube page. Enjoy new-

Ant:
What’s coming?
